That Marlon Byrd T-Shirt Giveaway Shouldn't Be Awkward at All After Mets Trade

If you love someone, set him or her free. At least, that's how the New York Mets might spin Tuesday's Marlon Byrd T-shirt giveaway in light of their trade of the outfielder to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rumors of Byrd being dealt spread throughout the Internet on Monday and spawned this tweet from Mets correspondent Andrew Harts

John Buck Consoles Matt Harvey and Mets Fans Weep Openly

With a tear in his elbow and a long gaze lost on the game before him, Matt Harvey received a much-needed hug from battery mate and friend John Buck

2011 NL East Preview: Catcher Power Rankings

As we head toward the start of the 2011 MLB season, it’s time to start previewing the NL East.

Instead of just giving a projection for each team, I’ll rank all of the projected starters at every position, leading up to the final predictions.

The catchers are up first, and as with the division in general, the Braves and Phillies are battling for the top spot. Brian McCann and Carlos Ruiz were 1-2 in the National League in WAR for catchers this past season (and Ruiz actually had a higher wOBA), but who will perform better in 2011?

Javier Vasquez Agrees To Terms with Florida Marlins

Right handed pitcher Javier Vasquez agreed to a one year deal with the Florida Marlins.

It was reported that Vasquez had turned down a multi-year deal from another team, which only shows he wants to make himself a front of the rotation guy again, and get a great offer after 2011.

But for now, the deal is known to be somewhere around $7 million, according to baseball insider Ken Rosenthal.

Toronto Blue Jays: Can They Win By Creating a Team of Bautistas?

Nine hitting clones of Jose Bautista (including the DH). Some 486 home runs between them. Over 1,000 "runs" (taking the average of runs and RBI to adjust for batting order). And 900 bases on balls. All with a batting average of "only" .260.

This isn't going to happen. Even Bautista himself might find it hard to hit another 50-plus home runs next season after pitchers adjust to him.

Kyle Drabek Solid In Major League Debut

There would only be one reason why I would sit down to watch a Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays game in the middle of September when both teams are completely out of it.

I wanted to watch the debut of top pitching prospect Kyle Drabek for the Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays Call Up J.P. Arencibia To Replace John Buck

With catcher John Buck on the 15-day DL, it was the perfect opportunity for the Blue Jays to call up their stud in waiting, J.P. Arencibia . Let's take a quick look at why Blue Jays fans and fantasy owners are getting excited...

Toronto Blue Jays Enter MLB Trade Deadline As Loaded Sellers

The city of Toronto is in a state of flux right now with their beloved sports teams.

The Maple Leafs appear to be trying to revive a team that's been in hockey's basement ever since the lockout of 2004. The Raptors have lost multiple superstars in recent memory (Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Antonio Davis) and now just lost another in Chris Bosh to the Miami Heat.

Both of these teams are re-tooling in hopes of a better future.

As we move on to the Blue Jays, they are in that same state of flux as every other major sports franchise in "Hog-Town."

Toronto Blue Jays GM: Alex Anthopoulos's Bold Moves for Better Team

Change is in the air here in Toronto.  It seems that most of the city's sports teams are in the midst of an overhaul.  The Raptors are transitioning into the new era without Chris Bosh.  Brian Burke continues his push with the Maple Leafs in hopes that they can make the playoffs, acquiring Kris Versteeg and Colby Armstrong this offseason.

Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos also continues to put his impressive stamp on the Toronto Blue Jays.

MLB Trade Rumors: Blue Jays All-Star Catcher John Buck to Red Sox?

Busy as Blue Jays Catcher John Buck was collecting his first hit as an All-Star, he still found time to discuss his former teammate, David DeJesus, with WEEI's Alex Speier yesterday in Anaheim. Put bluntly, Buck thinks DeJesus would perform tremendously with the Red Sox or another playoff contender.

Little does Buck realize that he may be playing in Beantown just as quickly as Kansas City's much-discussed outfielder. Perhaps they'll reunite at Fenway.
