The MLB Winter Meetings take place next Monday through Thursday and with a new regime in place, you'd figure a big trade will be made or at least attempted. After all, it's long overdue that the Mets part ways with a member or two of their "core." Why it's called that is confusing since the Mets have never won a pennant with those players.

MLB rumors continue to heat up the hot stove—or at least New York City—as we inch closer and closer to February.

And that magical date when pitchers and catchers report.

Around baseball, it's actually been a somewhat quiet offseason for player movement. No free agents of note have signed, with the exception of the reports that former Yankee Javier Vasquez will sign with Florida.

But not even the much-coveted Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford have been in the news as much as Derek Jeter's very public contract talks with the Yankees have been.

MLB trade rumors are picking up steam as the annual Winter Meetings are set to begin next week.

While free agent signings will most likely take precedent after salary arbitration is complete, teams that missed out on the offseason action will surely look to make a splash in the trade market.

It has not been unusual, in the past, for big baseball moves to happen at or before the Thanksgiving weekend. This season, it was catcher Victor Martinez who set the market in motion, when he signed with the Detroit Tigers Tuesday. From there on, the dominoes began to fall.

"Six-and-a-half games back and not playing very well in a season we thought we ought to be in contention.  I think we were losing ground with the field," Ranger managing general partner George W. Bush said in June of 1992 upon firing his manager.

The Mets are currently in a changing phase.  Many new faces are going to be brought into Queens, and others will leave. 

One of the players whose name is coming up to leave is Jose Reyes.  The talks have recently dimmed down, but just the thought of that made me sick.  The Mets without Jose Reyes.  That just doesn't sound right at all. 

Catching the baseball.

Many consider this the basic feature of America's pastime. However, knowing our beloved Mets, they usually seem to screw it up.

Tonight in the Mets 9-2 loss to the Brew Crew, Jose Reyes dropped a pop up with two outs in the fifth inning. Dillon Gee had only given up two runs up to that point, with the Mets trailing 2-1.

NEW YORK—The Mets were let down last night in the series opener against the Phillies by their young starter Jenrry Mejia. He's young in age, not just baseball years.

Today, they'll attempt to even the series by starting another younger pitcher, Mike Pelfrey. Now, Pelfrey has been around since 2006, and is 26 years old. But, he still pitches like someone of Mejia's age.

If you can remember back to April 5th, you'll recall a beautiful Monday afternoon when the New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins 7-1 and everything in Mets Land was perfect. Nothing is better than a 1-0 record.
