At the age of 34, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright will be looking to once again prove he is one of the best starting pitchers in all of baseball after tearing his Achilles early last season.

Major League Baseball teams will get an extra 24 hours to make some moves before the trade deadline in 2016. 

Per USA Today's Bob Nightengale on Thursday, the deadline has been moved from July 31 to August 1 due to the original date being on a Sunday.  

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman will not face criminal charges in an alleged domestic violence incident with his girlfriend last October. 

According to Rafael Olmeda of the Sun-Sentinel, prosecutors in Broward County, Florida, decided not to file criminal charges against Chapman.

For a week, play-by-play broadcaster Josh Maurer struggled to control his nerves. He hardly ate or slept. His body only wanted to focus on the job, which he kept reminding himself was basically the same thing he had done hundreds, if not thousands, of times before. All he had to do was call the games.

It took far longer than anyone expected—nearly three months—but some of baseball's top free agents finally found homes over the past week. Some, like Chris Davis, returned to familiar territory, while others, like Wei-Yin Chen, Ian Kennedy and Justin Upton, will need time to learn the lay of the land in new cities.

Yet even with all that movement, there's still plenty of talent available at nearly every position, whether it be via free agency or trade.

There was a time, not all that long ago, when the best team in baseball wouldn't commit anything more than a three-year contract to a starting pitcher. The Toronto Blue Jays lost some pitchers in the early 1990s, but they won back-to-back World Series.

Imagine trying to do that now.

We occasionally like to think they do, but true Major League Baseball superteams don't actually exist in nature. Put a supposed superteam under a microscope, and you'll find the imperfections.

But in these days when we can almost taste the 2016 MLB season, we can at least imagine what a superteam would look like.

Good things come to those who wait. When it comes to cashing in their trade assets, that should be the New York Yankees' guiding dogma.

The New York Mets continued fortifying their bullpen Wednesday, agreeing to a two-year, $12 million deal with veteran reliever Antonio Bastardo.

The Detroit Tigers and Justin Upton made their partnership official on Wednesday, as the 28-year-old outfielder officially signed his six-year contract and met with the media for his introductory press conference.
