While the attention of the baseball world remains fixated on the never-ending news machine that is the MLB offseason, some well-known prospects are making cases for 2016 roster spots in winter leagues across the Caribbean. 

Over the next few slides, we'll move away from the rumor mill and look at a handful of prospects making waves in various offseason leagues. 

Some prospects choose not to play when the season ends. For many, it's just more games in which they can lower their stock or become injured.

Sad, but true. The offseason definitely giveth, but it can also taketh away and can play really hard to get. There are always teams that find that out firsthand every winter, and some out there are in danger of falling into the trap this winter.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Colorado Rockies have agreed to a three-year extension worth $10.4 million with reliever Adam Ottavino on Saturday. 

Video has emerged of the November bar fight involving Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, according to TMZ Sports. The altercation occurred on the eve of Thanksgiving at Blue Martini Bar in Miami. 

The video shows Puig apparently slapping a bar staffer before he's quickly escorted off the premises.

The 2015 MLB offseason has been no different. While teams like the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks have made serious statements regarding their contention in 2016, several organizations are reeling in disappointment. 

We are a week removed from the Major League Baseball winter meetings, but the action has cooled only slightly.

The last eight days provided a headline trade that furthered the Cincinnati Reds' rebuilding project, and the Los Angeles Dodgers lost a player they thought they had acquired. But nothing was as noteworthy as the next-best starting pitcher coming off the market when the San Francisco Giants signed Johnny Cueto.

First the good news, Royals fans: Kansas City made an offer to free-agent left fielder Alex Gordon, a key piece of their championship puzzle. The bad news? Gordon basically spit on it.

For a time, it looked like the Seattle Mariners had lost Hisashi Iwakuma. During that time, they had the look of a solid yet flawed team.

But then Iwakuma fell back into their laps. And now, well, surprise! What was a solid but flawed team now looks like a plain ol' solid team.

Following a three-year stint with the Cleveland Indians, Mike Aviles is headed to the Detroit Tigers on a one-year deal, the team announced.

ESPN's Buster Olney initially reported the deal.

The team has not disclosed the financial terms.
