According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Dodgers ace Zack Greinke opted out of his contract Wednesday, becoming a free agent and opening the door for bigger money—and apparently a free bus pass, courtesy of L.A. Metro.

The Toronto Blue Jays have a new team president, and some big additions are to be expected. A slight change in franchise culture could be on deck as well, and one free agent who would match their needs nicely is starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. 

The MLB trade market may not really heat up until the big names in free agency are signed, sealed and delivered, but there are still rumors already making the rounds about several players.

Let's break down some of the juicier buzz. 

Clay Buchholz, SP, Boston Red Sox

The Cincinnati Reds announced Wednesday that Dick Williams was promoted to senior vice president and general manager in a slight restructuring of the front office.  

Walt Jocketty will remain as president of baseball operations and spoke about Williams' move up from VP and assistant GM.

Shortstop Alexei Ramirez has spent his entire career with the Chicago White Sox, but that may soon change, as the team declined to pick up his contract option Wednesday.

According to the team's official Twitter account, it instead opted to exercise a $1 million buyout, thus making the Cuban veteran a free agent.

The World Series may be in the books, but the MLB offseason should be as lively and dramatic in the four short months before pitchers and catchers report for spring training.

That baseball's offseason hasn't yet officially begun hasn't stopped the rumor mill from beginning to spin, albeit slowly and with most of the focus on the free-agent market, which opens its doors for business Saturday.

But mixed in with the free-agent chatter have been some rumors and speculation about some All-Star-caliber players who, while still under contract, could find themselves getting acclimated to a new city and clubhouse before long.
