The New York Mets kept Thursday night's extra-innings game against the host Philadelphia Phillies alive even longer when pitcher Carlos Torres and first baseman Daniel Murphy combined to turn an interesting play at first.

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Phillies right fielder Jeff Francoeur sent a ground ball racing toward Torres on the mound.

Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span is heading back to the disabled list a mere two days after he returned to the lineup. The team’s official Twitter account noted that Span would be placed on the 15-day DL with left hip inflammation and a subsequent roster move would happen Friday.

Madison Bumgarner channeled his inner dancer in the third inning of Thursday's 9-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, performing a pirouette-like move to make a play at first base.

Washington Nationals outfielder Michael Taylor was forced to leave Thursday's game against the San Diego Padres with a right knee contusion, per the team.

He will not play in Friday's game vs. the Marlins, per Jacob Emert of MLB.com.

In the midst of a playoff push, the Chicago Cubs are looking to bolster their bullpen by any means necessary. 

According to the Seattle Mariners' public relations Twitter account, the Cubs acquired reliever Fernando Rodney from the Mariners on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.
