Brian McRae: Exclusive Interview with the Former New York Mets Player

A few weeks ago, I was granted the opportunity to ask former Mets outfielder and ESPN analyst Brian McRae a few questions regarding his time in New York and what he is currently up to now.

As many will recall McRae spend parts of three seasons in Flushing during which time he hit roughly .250, which is lower than his career average of .261.

Alex Cora Suffers Injury [Insert Joke Here]

Matt Cerrone at MetsBlog points to a report out from Beisbol Invernal, which states that Alex Cora left a winter ball game with a back injury.

No additional information on the severity of the injury is available at this time.

This certainly isn’t good news for Omar Minaya, as he has faced criticism as of late for signing the veteran utility man to such a lucrative deal.

Who's the New York Mets' Best Bet?: Jason Bay or Matt Holliday?

Jason Bay or Matt Holliday? This was the debate on WFAN radio in New York yesterday, and nearly everyone was leaning in favor of Bay. The discussion occurred on Miked Up, a show hosted by Mike Francesa that can also be seen on the YES Network in the afternoon.

I mention Francesa because he's one of the better-respected sports radio men in the business, and yet I found myself completely disagreeing with him—a phenomenon which is not at all uncommon for me.

Is Jason Bay Better Than Matt Holliday for the Mets? Not So Fast

I’ve come out of the woodwork for a brand new blog, because I’ve come across some interesting data, and I think it’d be just plain selfish of me not to share it with my Mets brethren.

While the media is busy debating whether or not the Mets' less than aggressive move for Jason Bay is purely a PR ploy, of greater interest to me personally is the assertion that Mets brass might actually prefer Bay to free agent Matt Holliday.

It seems that the Mets are—gasp—using statistics to evaluate how each hitter might fare in their cavernous ballpark.

My New York Mets All-Time Starting Lineup

Baseball is my passion, or as Nick Turturro says... "I breathe baseball!" For the last 25 years the focus of that passion has been the New York Mets. So this list is MY ALL-TIME lineup. These are the players that have been the objects of my man-crushes... the guys who have been the driving force behind this fan's highs.... and lows (oh, so many lows...).

MLB 9s: New York Mets—Darryl Strawberry, Jose Reyes: The Past and Present

Were Carlos Delgado and John Olerud more valuable with the bat than Keith Hernandez—a star with the glove two decades earlier?

Is David Wright's combination of speed and power enough to see off Howard Johnson—the All-Star who took the current face of the franchise under his wing this winter to iron out his swing?

Is power more important than speed? Is the past worth more the present?

It all points to one question with hundreds of possibilities: Which New York Met had the greatest offensive season at his position?

My Thoughts on the 2010 New York Mets: Center Field

The New York Mets have one of the best center fielders in all of baseball. He is an amazing five-tool outfielder who consistently puts up great numbers. He is a real pro.

Ever since Carlos Beltran came to the Mets, I think that he has been underappreciated.  He has just recently been named to Sports Illustrated's all-decade team, as the starting center fielder.

Report: New York Mets Acquire Edwin Jackson From Detroit Tigers

Reports on Monday afternoon are that the New York Mets have traded for Detroit Tigers starter Edwin Jackson.

Jackson emerged as a solid starter for Detroit after being dealt to the Tigers for Matt Joyce last winter. The 26-year-old righty was 13-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 33 starts. He had one complete game last year, and struck out 161 in 215 innings pitched. Opposing batters only managed a .246 average against Jackson in 2009.

Manager Whitey Herzog, Umpire Doug Harvey Elected to the Hall of Fame

Today, the Veterans Committee for Managers and Umpires elected Whitey Herzog and Doug Harvey into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Herzog—or the “White Rat” as he was so often called because of his white hair—spent 18 years managing the Texas Rangers, California Angels, Kansas City Royals, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Will the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals Find Common (Trade) Ground?

The Kansas City Royals are the current grist being ground in the rumor mill that is Major League Baseball's hot stove season.

I suppose it is a welcome change for the oft-maligned and hardly spoken of club, because as the saying goes, "any press is good press. "
