Yankee Stadium: A Day Late, Hundreds of Dollars Short

The new Yankee Stadium opened with ceremony, and a 10-2 loss to Cleveland.

I was hoping to get to the opening of the new Yankee Stadium this week. I tried to call in a few favors, but the tickets never came through.

Fuggedaboutit!

I’m not the godfather.

With a slim wallet, and the cheap seats going for $200 and up, scalping was out of the question.

Instead, I took the day off from work, and saw the game on TV...for free.

Big Apple Heroes: New York's Most Loved Athletes

Recently, Mike Kent put together a nice article on what he believed to be the top 10 fan-favorites in the state of New York.

I was lucky enough to spend the first three years of my life in New York and, while I cannot remember many athletes (or remember anything in general), I thought I should give this list a shot of my own.

I hope you enjoy the following, and don't forget to check out Mike's either for a second opinion!

Nick Swisher Bats Fourth For Yankees: Worth a Fantasy Baseball Pickup?

Nick Swisher started today’s game for the Yankees, batting in the four-slot behind star slugger Mark Teixeira.  With Xavier Nady out, Swisher steps into a full-time role in the outfield for the Yankees.  Is he a worthwhile fantasy pickup for owners in need of hitting?

Game No. 12: Indians-Yankees: Wang Must Get It Together

(The Voice of Yankees Universe)

Chien-Ming Wang has been completely dreadful in his first two starts of the season. It isn’t time to panic, but it is a concern.

Starting the season 0-2 with a 28.93 ERA is just unacceptable. I fully expected him to join the team and pitch like he did when he was healthy.

Maybe the lack of game action has effected him. I don’t want to make any excuses for the guy, but I think we all want to know what’s going on.

The Yankees Call Up Claggett, Option Miranda

According to Chad Jennings of the Scranton Times-Tribune, the Yankees have called up relief pitcher Anthony Claggett from triple-A Scranton, and in a corresponding move optioned first baseman Juan Miranda back to the minors.

The Pawtacket Red Sox Lost the Battle Friday, but May Have Won the War

Maybe the Pawtucket Red Sox lost the battle Friday night, in their home opener against the Leigh Valley Iron Pigs.

But because knuckleballer Charlie Zink and reliever Billy Traber gave them nine innings, the PawSox may win the war, the war being the remainder of a six-game homestand.

The Iron Pigs eked out a 4-3 victory before an all-time McCoy Stadium record crowd of 11,892, but the PawSox's situation is more encouraging given the efforts of Zink and Traber.

Here's why.

Yankees Win and My Take on Derek Jeter's Game

The New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians by a score of 6-5. They won with a home run by Derek Jeter in the top of the eigtth inning. Joba Chamberlain didn't pitch well. Brian Bruney got the win and Mariano Rivera got his third save.

Derek Jeter had his second game winning hit this season. Whether it's the one spot or two spot, Jeter produces.

WARNING: Joba Chamberlain to the Bullpen Uproar About to Begin

Cue the doomsday music, and prepare for a passionate backlash from the mainstream media and an increasingly pessimistic fan base.

The House that Hank Smokes In

Well, it was quite a day yesterday, as the new Yankee Stadium opened up for business for the first time during the regular season.

The fans jammed the stands, the legends of Yankee past came out onto the field, and Hank went from his customary cig at first pitch to a carton, when Veras and Marte entered the game. Damon got the first hit, Posada the first home run and Veras and Marte got the first Bronx cheers.

New York Yankees Notes: Minor League Revision and Some Other Thoughts

I want to apologize for a mistake I made in my minor league post. The Scranton Yankees are 8-0, not 7-0. I should have known better but mistakes happen and I will make sure to pay closer attention.

I don't think the Yankees are going to carry 13 pitchers all season and I would have to assume they will eventually carry another outfielder to make up for Xavier Nady being out. Shelly Duncan is looking good, batting .333 so far this year. Does he get another shot??
