The Colorado Rockies have gone from being the laughing stock of the National League to a contender.

With the conclusion of the first weekend, Phillies fans have already learned a lot about the upcoming season. Already the rotation was known to be a sure thing. 19 innings were pitched by Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt while only allowing a collective 14 hits, six runs, one walk and 23 strikeouts.

It’s so obvious. I don’t know how all the phans in Philadelphia are missing it. 

The Braves are clearly the team to beat in the NL East. They have it all: pitching, power, superior defense, awesome bench. Everything's there. 

Yet those phans, and most of the national media, just can’t see it.

You wanna talk pitching? Add one part Derek Lowe, one part Tommy Hanson, a handful of Tim Hudson and a pinch of Brandon Beachy (???) and you got a championship rotation, right? 

Since his debut in 2006 at the age of 23, Jered Weaver has emerged as one of the games elite starters.

Last season, Weaver earned his first All Star selection and finished fifth in Cy Young voting while leading the majors with 233 strikeouts.

Somehow, Weaver has managed to stay under the radar outside of Anaheim. His success and talents are no secret to Angels fans however.

As if the Mets didn't have enough problems, now talking babies are giving them grief.

This is a perfect case of people being split down the center on the issue and there not being much room for middle ground.

It all went down during the Mets' Opening Day loss to the Florida Marlins. As the opening day loss was being broadcast live on the Mets' home station of SNY, an unnamed employee of the station briefly played a Family Guy joke live over broadcaster Gary Cohen.

You know how there are some guys that you just have a good feeling about?

I used to be an avid baseball card collector and there was always this sector of the hobby that only collected unproven prospects in hopes of hitting it big with one.

Maybe the Red Sox' nightmarish opening series with the Texas Rangers will quickly erase the fantasies of some overly optimistic fans about the team winning 100 games or more in 2011. The Rangers not only swept the Red Sox, but pulverized the much-heralded Sox starting pitchers. The Rangers got 34 hits, including 21 extra base hits and 11 home runs in the three-game sweep. The Rangers outscored the Red Sox 26-11 over the series.

Never trust the weather in Colorado. Especially in the spring.

The Kansas City Royals knew that they were getting some talented arms when they left camp with rookie relievers Aaron Crow, Tim Collins and Nate Adcock.

But there was no way of telling that the trio would be this dominant in their few games in the big leagues.

In the team's recently completed season-opening series against the Angels, the threesome combined to pitch eight shutout innings while giving up six hits and striking out 11 in the process.

What an interesting opening series this has been!

The first game of the series was well played by both sides. The pitching was phenomenal and the defense was solid. 

However, some fans, including myself, were slightly uncomfortable with the offensive performance by the Braves. The lineup had only five hits and two runs, both of which are below expectations. Thankfully, Derek Lowe and the bullpen were there to bail the offense out and shut out the Nats.
