2011 MLB Offseason: New York Yankees Remain Unusually Quiet

Has anyone else noticed that the New York Yankees have had an extremely quiet offseason? Well, for them at least.

L.A. Angels: Can Kendrys Morales Bounce Back from His Broken Leg?

The next time Kendrys Morales takes the field in a game, his teammates and coaches aren’t likely to tell him to “break a leg.”

The L.A. Angels first baseman did just that late last May and hasn’t made a single appearance in a game since. Nearly a year removed from the injury that effectively killed his and the Angels’ season, Morales still isn’t quite ready for game time.

MLB: Why Joe Mauer Is Good for Major League Baseball

Between 1990-2008, baseball was dominated by the long ball. Slugger after slugger became the face of baseball. Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire captivated the entire nation during the summer of 1998. The following year, Barry Bonds broke McGwire’s home run record. In 2007, Bonds controversially broke Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record.

Chicago White Sox: It Is Time for a Manager Change

Ozzie Guillen has been skipper on the South Side of Chicago for seven years.

His career as a manager was met with quick and early success. By 2005, his club drenched an 88-year drought by winning the World Series.

Guillen, however, has always been controversial and remains so today. Only one thing is left to say, enough is enough.

It is time for Guillen to exit.

Chicago White Sox: Why Matt Thornton Has Earned the Chance to Close in 2011

The Chicago White Sox held a meeting Friday to discuss the roles each player would play in the pursuit of a Central Division championship in 2011.

Apparently, Matt Thornton was told to get ready to close.

Many had Chris Sale penciled into that role, but I feel that Thornton should be the man Ozzie Guillen hands the ball to in the ninth.

I thought that before spring training started and I still feel that way.

Derek Jeter or Brett Gardner Leading off for New York Yankees: Does It Matter?

One of the few remaining decisions for the New York Yankees in this spring training is a final choice of leadoff hitter.

The choice for manager Joe Girardi comes down to Derek Jeter or Brett Gardner.

Jeter is a 16-year veteran who had a down year in 2010.  Jeter has made adjustments to his setup at the plate which have been successful this spring.  He is a career .300 hitter, and there is no real reason to believe he won't be much better this year.

Barry Bonds Trial: When the Jersey Comes Off, Nobody Cares

Barry Bonds is in trouble. With his perjury trial underway, Bonds faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, as well as the tarnishing of his legacy. As if it wasn't already.

For three years we have waited for this. The date was March 2011, and everyone in San Francisco and anyone growing up with an awareness of Bonds would remember that date. The day is finally here.

The Giants' Barry Bonds Accomplished More Than Even the Steroid Users

Barry Bonds is the all-time career home run leader. Most fans are convinced that many of his home runs, especially those he hit during the latter part of his illustrious career, are tainted.

Others, however, wonder if it matters since some—possibility a majority—were hit against pitchers were aided by substances those in power frown upon.

Future Hall of Fame left-hander Tom Glavine, who has had to contend with Bonds as an opponent most of his career, has definite views.

Albert Pujols Is Not a Member of the $300 Million Club

First, let me make this clear: I am not a baseball fan. I have no ax to grind. I have been following Albert Pujol's contract "negotiations" because he wants a ten year, thirty million dollar per year contract.

Right. You can see how this could make even a non-baseball fan curious. 300 million, really?

The market value cannot be driven by complete greed or narcissism.

New York Yankees Spring Training: Bartolo Colon Should Not Earn Rotation Spot

Through four starts in spring training, Bartolo Colon has a 2.40 ERA, a .192 BAA, a 0.73 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.

So, why am I arguing against this obvious Cy Young hopeful and godsend to the Yankees pitching staff earning a spot in the starting rotation come Opening Day?
