Dear Dayton,

I have been a Royals fan for nearly my entire life of 22 years. I have heard many stories of how the Royals used to be a dominant AL team, and how George Brett just took over the game of baseball with his amazing ability to hit.

However, this has not been the case since I have been on the earth. We have had one winning season (2003) since I was born, and most fans, like myself, even agreed that that year's team was a fluke.

Even though he's a Pirate, Andy McCutchen is a well above league average player.

Newbies such as Pedro Alvarez, Jose Tabata and Neil Walker were all more or less league average in 2010, their rookie year (above average on offense, below average on defense).

Garrett Jones was moderately below average in 2010 after an above average half-year in 2009; a time-weighted performance suggests that he could be average.

If he’s not impeccable in the strike zone or doesn’t attack the plate with his breaking balls and vicious curveballs, then he’s not a godlike specimen. Every so often, he exposes his human side and misses the strike zone or allows unearned runs in a perplexing fashion.

It was absolutely a nightmarish night in San Francisco, at a moment when much was a stake. Very rarely does Cliff Lee diminish on the mound amid the grandest stage in baseball.

Well, Game 1 of the 2010 World Series between the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants didn't unfold quite the way the boys from Arlington expected.

There was far too little "claw and antlers," and the Rangers were given ample reason to "fear the beard."

No team plays with the goal of being called second or third best.

They play to be called Champions.

But, that does not exclude the non-champions from being ranked. Nor does it stop some governing body or League Office/Association from crowning a second or third place team.

With the sting of the New York Yankees loss to the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series still fresh in the minds of many Yankee fans, many are demanding drastic changes.

The uninspired six game defeat to the upstart Rangers will surely result in some roster turnover.

Pitching coach Dave Eiland has already had his fate determined, as he was fired earlier this week.

Of all the major pro sports leagues, Major League Baseball's postseason is the least valid at crowning a champ.  This is for a number of reasons.  There is good news, however. Many positive tweaks to the playoff structure have already been discussed.  Time to shed light on just what is missing, and what actions should be taken.

Baseball has loads of issues. The bats shatter and impale baserunners. The games are too long, and so is the season. Since when is the World Series supposed to be played in November?

This upcoming offseason marks an offseason of transition for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The San Francisco Giants are regarded more for their pitching than hitting—and for good reason. They ranked 15th in batting average and 17th in runs scored during the regular season.

But while their offense was mediocre then, their approach at the plate is one of the main reasons they've made it this far in the postseason.
