Not repeating and no longer reigning as champions was not the game plan the New York Yankees had at the start of the 2010 season.

Losing the ALCS to the Texas Rangers was heartbreaking. The Bombers elimination seemed almost unreal, as the Yankees were the stronger ball-club all season long.

The blame-game is in full swing in New York, pointing fingers at Skipper Joe Girardi for his managerial calls and GM Brian Cashman not facing a team of over-the-hill players in time.

The Mets are closer to being a contending team than you may think.  The incoming GM could make these simple and, perhaps more importantly, cheap changes to have them competing next year and for years to come.

As I've made note of, I am an umpire. I've done games at the youth, high school and collegegiate level for more than 20 years now.

Some coaches, fans and players would say it's been too long already.

Yet, I enjoy it. For all the hot, humid days in the desert sun, the tournament weekends that end up consisting a dozen or more games in three days, or the constant complaining from the stands, more often than not, I walk off the field with a smile on my face and my confidence intact. 

Well, baseball fans: That inevitable time of year has, once again, come around:

It’s the time of year when all of us get to jump up and down, laugh and celebrate.

But wait, let me explain what we’re laughing at, and why we’re all laughing:

Since 1901, the New York Yankees organization has been in existence.

That means that they’ve been operating for 109 years to date.

When the Atlanta Braves 2010 came to a close a couple weeks back at the hands of the eventual National League Champion San Francisco Giants, there was a lot of mourning at the Britt (that's me) household.

I was resigned to filling out college applications and (gasp) putting school over baseball for a couple of weeks as I bitterly refused to watch the LCS's for the thought of what might of been had Chipper Jones, Martin Prado, Billy Wagner and Kris Medlen been good-to-go for the first round of the playoffs.

What's that?

Finally the first game of the 2010 World Series is about to begin.

It's finally that time.

The 2010 World Series is finally here.

Maybe your favorite team didn't make it to the big stage this year and maybe you know nothing about the Texas Rangers or the San Francisco Giants, but this is the place that you want to be during Game One of the 2010 world Series.

Josh Hamilton is a power hitting, center fielder for the Texas Rangers who are now representing the American League in the World Series.

Hamilton has proven during these playoffs that he does truly possess all five-tools to be a superstar player. How many players in this day and age require the Barry Bonds treatment in games? The answer not many, but there was Hamilton being intentionally walked three times by the New York Yankees in the deciding game of the American League Championship Series.

As a New York Yankees fan it is easy to get to know the players in the American League.

Due to geographical circumstances and interleague play, I have learned more about some of the teams in the National League, like the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Over the past few seasons, the San Francisco Giants have not come to the Bronx and have not factored in the postseason.
