With less than two weeks until the start of spring training, most organizations have already extended invitations to their non-40-man-roster players.

Besides providing an opportunity for players to fine-tune their skills against more advanced competition, spring training offers prospects the chance to make a strong impression in front of the entire organization.

For a Major League Baseball superstar, the pressure is inherited with the title.

That much is a given. Whether it is a player’s past production or simply his price tag, the stars of the game are looked upon to be among the best. This becomes especially true when that player’s team is expected to win. There is little pressure on a player like Joe Mauer, whose season is not expected to dictate how his team fares.

Some MLB players are simply indispensable.

It's been a busy offseason on the pitching market, with Max Scherzer and Jon Lester heading this year's free-agent class of starters. The third ace-caliber arm on the market, James Shields, has yet to sign and could certainly shake things up between now and Opening Day.

Spring training is drawing nearer, but that doesn't mean we've run out of offseason storylines to discuss over the winter's final weeks. 

Despite pitchers and catchers reporting in less than two weeks, we still need some clarity regarding a handful of important players. 

Of course that includes a conclusion to the James Shields saga, as the front-line hurler should decide on a new home for the season ahead any day now.  

With seven new high-profile additions, the Chicago White Sox will lift the lid on the 2015 season with a 25-man roster that is dramatically different than the one that opened last year’s campaign.

Because of the stark differences between the two rosters, expectations on the South Side are quite lofty. That leads to a natural question: Which players are the most important for success this season?
