About a month ago, I wrote about some bold predictions for this upcoming Mariners season. In it, I said that Ichiro will win a batting title.

It really isn't an insanely bold prediction since this is something entirely possible in any given season with Ichiro. That doesn't make it something that is a lock, though, either.

I'll expand on that prediction a bit, and give five reasons that show he can still do it.

One of the latest rumors coming out of New York Yankees spring training is who will be the leadoff hitter in the batting order. Will it be veteran shortstop and captain Derek Jeter or up-and-coming outfielder Brett Gardner? 

At the beginning of spring training, Yankees manager Joe Girardi maintained that the No. 1 spot is Jeter’s.

The fifth starter competition is now officially without its original favorite.

Over the weekend manager Bob Geren declared Rich Harden officially out of the competition, stating that there was not enough time left in spring training for him to compete with other starters Brandon McCarthy, Josh Outman, Tyson Ross and Bobby Cramer.

"Yeah, there is not time for that," Geren said regarding Harden continuing to compete for the fifth starter spot.

Every MLB franchise has its great moments, and behind every great moment is a great pitcher.

Say what you want about the myth of clutch or the randomness of small sample sizes, but if you had to pick someone to take the mound for your favorite team in Game 7 of the World Series, you'd have a hard time being fully objective.

While teams throughout the Major Leagues monitor their rosters this spring, there are a number of players who are taking the field with a certain level of uncertainty.

Relief pitchers are an integral part of any team's successes. They enter games in tight spots and are counted on to shut out the competition when it counts.

If that's not enough pressure, a number of pitchers in team's bullpens are playing with the possibility of being pulled into a new role, that of a starting pitcher.

Ever since last season, there have been rumors of an Albert Pujols for Ryan Howard swap between the Cardinals and the Phillies. Since Albert Pujols did not get a contract extension done with the Cardinals this offseason, St. Louis may want to get something out of their star first basemen, instead of having him walk. The Cardinals want to avoid being "Lebron'd" in other terms. The Phillies would benefit greatly from this trade, gaining the best first basement in baseball, and losing a power-hitting, strike-out machine Ryan Howard.

Here it is, a time preview that could eventually end up turning up as a reality throughout the duration of the 2011 MLB regular season.

The starting point is the American League's West Division. The smallest division in all of baseball contains four teams that will jockey for the top position. One of these teams is the defending-AL champion Texas Rangers. A big question mark here regards their ability to bounce back after a World Series defeat. 

Most teams have that one special player who stands out.  Fans recognize them, and teammates count on them to come through in tough situations.

Some players become popular just because they have been around a long time.  Others are appreciated for their great play and many accolades.  And others encompass the total package with great offense, defense and a good public image.

Albert Pujols is a great example of a franchise player.  After 10 years in St. Louis, multiple honors and awards and his overall performance, Pujols represents Cardinals baseball.

These are the saddest of possible terms: My lifetime of anguish is done. From the iconic double play trio who last brought a championship to the north side of Chicago, to a triad more familiar to today's lexicon, the Chicago Cubs will torture me no longer.

Once thought of as a thin position in fantasy baseball, the 2B talent pool has grown considerably in the last few years; so much so that you could get good value for taking a second baseman in the later rounds. Here are my mid-spring training rankings for second basemen.
