Edinson Volquez: Coming Soon To a Cincinnati Reds Uniform Near You

It's a question as old as Abner Doubleday.  How does a contending team strengthen their starting rotation by the MLB trade deadline?  Well, it's possibly a bit more modern than Doubleday.

If you are the Cincinnati Reds, just have your All-Star pitcher go down a month and a half through the 2009 season, get a new arm via Tommy John surgery, and have him come back before the All-Star break—very simple, very easy.

There is none of this haggling with other teams regarding potential trades.

Central Beware: St. Louis Cardinals' Matt Holliday Has Found His Stroke

The time has come for the National League Central Division to hit the panic button. Matt Holliday is on fire, and there is no sign of the fire marshal.

After signing the biggest contract in St. Louis Cardinals history, Matt Holliday got off to a slow and inconsistent start in 2010.

On June 18, Holliday discovered his long-lost swing that had provided enough consistency and power to land him a $120 million contract.

In his last four games, Holliday is 11-for-17 (.647 avg) with five home runs and 10 RBI.

This is great news for Mets fans because Mejia, 20-years old, projects as a future starter and using him in the bullpen, in essentially a mop-up role, his development was being stunted.

Pittsburgh Pirate Pierogie Fired Due to Facebook Comment

The poor situation the Pirates are in easily lends the notion that its General Manager and manager would be on the heat seat for next season. In a move that makes no sense to many, or actually makes perfect sense for the Pirates especially when you see similar bewildering roster moves over the years, Pittsburgh actually gave the two contract extensions.

Detroit Tigers Square Off With Former Teammate Dontrelle Willis

The Detroit Tigers look to keep their winning streak alive in interleague play against ex-Tiger pitcher Dontrelle Willis tonight.

So far, the Tigers have a perfect record against the National League, sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals in consecutive three-game series'.

Nonetheless, the Tigers should expect a tough night of work, considering D-Train will want to prove that he still has a capacity to contribute quality pitching outings.
