MLB Draft: Chicago Cubs Analysis of the First 15 Rounds

Day one of the MLB First-Year Players Draft began with the most predictable draft pick in baseball history, when the Washington Nationals selected 17-year-old phenom Bryce Harper.

MLB Draft 2010: Is Cito Culver Next Derek Jeter or Yankees Wasted Pick?

New York Yankees, meet the next Derek Jeter. 17-year-old shortstop Christopher "Cito" Culver was drafted last night by the Yankees as the 32nd overall draft pick.

Rochester native Culver is only the second high school shortstop to get drafted by the Yanks in the first round since Jeter in 1992, and CJ Henry in 2005.

The Yankees will look for the Irondequoit High School senior to develop into the likes of his favorite player: Jeter.

Los Angeles Dodgers Injury Update 6/6/10

Just over a third of the way through the 2010 season, it is overly apparent: The Dodgers have been hit hard by injuries straight out of the gate.

However, hope is on the horizon. A perpetually depleted bullpen is starting to rebound from injuries to its main characters. Hong-Chih Kuo is beginning to find his form that enabled him to have success in his 2009 campaign.

Jeff Weaver, the Dodgers veteran righty out of the 'pen has been heckled by numerous health issues all season. However, it appears as though his recent soreness will not force him to the disabled list.

New York Mets Place Oliver Perez on the DL

It’s official. In order to make room for today’s start Jon Niese on the roster the Mets have placed Oliver Perez on the disabled list with what they are calling tendinitis in his knee . Yeah right, and if frogs had wings they wouldn’t bump their ass when they hopped.

Ken Griffey Junior Phoned-In Retirement to Mariners on Drive To Orlando

There are a lot of ways to retire. Ken Griffey Jr. seems to have found a new one. A mobile retirement.

According to Seattle Mariner President Chuck Armstrong, talking on Seattle sports radio station KJR, Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, called Armstrong Wednesday afternoon with some news. Junior was retiring, effective immediately.

A few minutes later, according to Armstrong, Griffey himself called to confirm it.

You imagine it went something like this:

'So would you like to do a press conference Junior?'

'Well, I can't, exactly.'

Breaking News: Bud Selig Will Not Reverse Blown Perfect Game Call

In a fairly unsurprising move, Bud Selig has announced that he will not in fact reverse the blown call by umpire Jim Joyce that cost Armando Galarraga the 21st perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball.

Selig did say "that Major League Baseball will look at expanded replay and umpiring". This is an improvement over the current system in place, but it doesn't change the fact that a young pitcher has been robbed of baseball immortality.

Daniel Murphy, New York Mets Infielder, Out Four To Six Months With MCL Tear

The New York Mets received bad news today on Daniel Murphy, finding that he will be lost for the season.

Daniel Murphy, who the Mets were prepping as a utility infielder in Triple-A Buffalo, suffered a "high-grade" tear of the cruciate ligament in his right knee, the team announced today.

Murphy was hurt while attempting to turn a double play.

The Mets say no surgery is required, but he is expected to be out four to six weeks.

Daniel Murphy Out 4-6 Months

The New York Mets have reported that Daniel Murphy has a high grade MCL tear. Murphy is expected to miss the next four to six months. Murphy however will not need surgery.

This eliminates any chance that Murphy will be traded at the deadline for pitching help this year.

Having gone through a severe knee injury myself, I know that Murphy has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He will need to work hard in physical therapy to return to where he was.

Hopefully Murphy will be able to surprise us and recover quickly. He may be able to make it back in late September.
