Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Options: Week 16 (July 19-25)

Cliff Lee: The Most Efficient Pitcher in The World

I was watching last night's Red Sox-Rangers game and as Cliff Lee was retiring hitter after hitter after hitter, I kept thinking to myself, "is this guy really this good?" It wasn't just the outs, but it was how he was getting them. Four times he retired the side in order in fewer than 10 pitches, which allowed him to enter the ninth inning with a pitch count of 85.

Unfortunately he allowed the tying run in the ninth, which spoiled his chance for a complete game victory, but that outing got me thinking; Cliff Lee doesn't get enough respect in fantasy baseball these days.

Six Players To Buy For The Second Half

Part of having success in fantasy baseball is having the right guys on your team at the right time. Some guys like Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera hit anytime, so there is no peak point for them. Then there are guys who are just better for one reason or another at a certain point of the season. Here are six guys who have proven throughout their careers to be better hitters once the second half rolls around.

Baseball Professor's Second Half Targets

The second half is underway and with that comes trade deadlines and playoff races. Probably the three most exciting months of the year, but if you don't prepare the right way you might be paying more attention to weekly episodes of "Wipeout" rather than Baseball Tonight.

Don't worry because Baseball Professor is here to make sure you get the right guys for the stretch run to keep your team in contention with our second half players to target right now.

MLB Fantasy Power Rankings: Midseason (July 16th)

These rankings are based on a 300 point system, 150 for offensive production, and 150 for pitching production. 30 points (1 point for each team) are the most points any team can receive in a given category. For instance, if the Rays lead the league in HR's they will get 30 points for that category.

The 5 offensive categories used:

HR's, RBI, Runs, Average, and SB's

The 5 pitching categories used:

In this list I will tell you what good players you could get at each position for the start of the second half of the season.

Fantasy Baseball Options For Replacing Justin Morneau

First base is one of, if not the, deepest positions for fantasy owners.  Still, with Justin Morneau hitting the DL, let’s take a look at some potential replacements for those in deeper formats:

Justin Morneau to the DL: Fantasy Baseball Pickup Options

Justin Morneau has been placed on the 15-day disabled list “as he continues to recover from a concussion that he suffered on July 7,” according to the Minnesota Twins' official website.

Morneau was attempting to break up a potential double play at second base, when he was accidentally kneed in the head.

This is Morneau’s second trip to the disabled list with concussion symptoms in his career. In 2005, he was hit in the head by a Ron Villone pitch that subsequently landed him on the DL.
