New York Yankees Notes: Minor League Revision and Some Other Thoughts

I want to apologize for a mistake I made in my minor league post. The Scranton Yankees are 8-0, not 7-0. I should have known better but mistakes happen and I will make sure to pay closer attention.

I don't think the Yankees are going to carry 13 pitchers all season and I would have to assume they will eventually carry another outfielder to make up for Xavier Nady being out. Shelly Duncan is looking good, batting .333 so far this year. Does he get another shot??

Chipper Jones Needs to Play Or Retire

Who, among us die-hard Braves fans, was not excited when it was announced that Chipper Jones’ contract had been extended another three years?

Who, among us, was not thrilled with the fact that Chipper would be a lifetime Brave? Especially considering the circumstances in which John Smoltz left Atlanta for the hated Red Sox three months ago.

Noise Makers Plus Baseball Equals Trash

What do you think of when you ponder the game of baseball? Hot dogs, beer, soda, peanuts, cracker jack, and the crack of the bat? Yep, sounds about right.

How about drums? whistles? thunder-slapping? Cmon.

MLB needs to jump on this garbage asap. There is NO place at a major league ball park for artificial noisemakers like drums and thundersticks.

CC Sabathia Heads Back to Brew Town

This just in: Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has left the Yankees to re-join the Milwaukee Brewers!

Well, it works out for at least one side. I'm fairly sure that we all know which side that is, the Brewers.

Sabathia led Milwaukee to its first playoff berth in 26 years in 2008 before signing with the Bronx Bombers. The big lefty's performance was astonishing to see, especially living in Milwaukee. It was nothing short of incredible.

Umpires: Playing on the Other Side of the Plate

We've all been there. We sit at home, in a bar, or at the sporting event and scream our brains out at the calls our officials make.

"Come on ref." "That was pass interference." "He was safe at first."

We all have done it; trust me, I do it, too. It's part of being a sports fan.

But not all of us have been on the other side. We have not been placed at that position, we have not had to be the ref or umpire.

Well, starting Saturday, I will get that experience—I decided to sign up to be an umpire.

Florida Marlins Look Fantast

The Florida Marlins showcased why they're my pick for World Series champs this week in their series against the Braves.

Open Mic: A Proper Way to Honor Jackie Robinson

Yesterday Major League Baseball and the office of the commissioner, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to make it mandatory for all uniformed personel—players, coaches, managers, and umpires—to wear Jackie Robinson's number 42 in an attempt to honor the man and his accomplishments.

This was a foolhardy exercise bound up in P.C. chains and force-fed to the baseball viewing public.

New York Yankees Minor League Notes

The AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees won again today, 8-7. They are now 7-0 on the season.

Alfredo Aceves started and gave up four hits and six runs with only five of them earned. He gave up two walks and struck out three.

Mark Melancon pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave up two walks and struck out three. Mark Melancon has pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up one hit, two walks, and fourteen strikeouts.

Is Francisco Liriano's Slow Start a Reason for Concern?

The Minnesota Twins boast one of the best young rotations in all of Major League Baseball. Francisco Liriano is the ace of the rotation, but he has started off the season slow, with a 0-2 record with a ERA of 6.94.

Does Liriano have what it takes to rebound from these numbers?
