Casey at the Bat | Chris Jakubauskas Baffles Angels, Mariners Lose

Last night I was faced with a dilemma.

I sat down to my computer to do some work, and put MLB Network on for background noise. As I’ve done with ESPN for years, I watched—rather, listened—to the same highlights at least a half-dozen times.

Then, much to my enjoyment, a baseball came on, and my attention, unintentionally, was pulled from my computer. Initially I was only comparing the MLB Network’s announcing team with those from the NFL network.

Miguel Cabrera Heading to the Boston Red Sox?

Buster Olney of ESPN made this comment on Mike and Mike in the Morning, an ESPN morning radio program: "If the Detroit Tigers are out of the playoff race early this season, look for them to trade Miguel Cabrera to the Red Sox, since the Red Sox are one of the few teams that could take on a large salary."

Cabrera is in the second year of an eight-year, $153 million deal. His annual salary ranges from $15 million to $22 million a year.

Jackie Robinson Would Have Played for the New York Giants

On Dec. 13, 1956, the Brooklyn Dodgers traded Jackie Robinson to the hated New York Giants for left-handed journeyman pitcher Dick Littlefield.

The only problem was that neither team knew that Robinson had decided to retire from baseball.

Is HoJo To Blame For The Mets Offense Strugging In Big Situations?

The Mets have a very potent offense, no question, but most of the hitters are extremely streaky, especially the heart of the lineup and this is a concern for the fans and for Mets management.

Howard Johnson is the hitting coach and was spared the late night firing that Willie Randolph and Rick Peterson received in Anaheim last June.

Albert Pujols Needs to Participate In 2009 Home Run Derby

Upon first glance, this doesn’t seem like actual news. But today’s report of Albert Pujols refuting claims that he planned to participate in the 2009 Home Run Derby has to be disconcerting for Cardinals fans, and fans in general that plan on attending.
Pujols is pretty much a shoo-in to be in the 80th annual All-Star Game, to take place July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Milwaukee Brewers: Good News, Bad News

Good news:  The Brewers' fourth starter, Braden Looper, is looking good so far this season.  Milwaukee won both games he started, and he's got nine strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.

Bad news:  The Brewers' first, second, and third starters, aren't looking so hot.  In a 7-6 loss to the Reds, Yovani Gallardo earned every Cincinnati run.  Jeff Suppan's ERA is a shade under 13 in seven innings pitched.  Manny Parra has been mediocre also, allowing eight runs in his first two starts.

Is Ichiro Suzuki Really The New Hit King?

Like he has so many times before, Ichiro Suzuki slapped a single through the right side of the infield.  Pretty routine if you think about it…but the historical significance was huge.

With that hit, Ichiro surpassed Isao Harimoto and became the all-time hit leader among Japanese baseball players.

The Fantasy Baseball Week Three Waiver Wire

This article originally appeared on Fantasyfootballmaniaxs.com.

Week Two is now coming to a close, and several teams are surprising fantasy owners around the country.  The Blue Jays, Marlins, Padres, and Mariners all sit atop their respective divisions while the former champions are forced to look up from the cellar.  We, though, must focus on the players that aid in their team’s successes.  Here is the Week Three Waiver Wire.

The House that Hank Smokes In

Well, it was quite a day yesterday, as the new Yankee Stadium opened up for business for the first time during the regular season.

The fans jammed the stands, the legends of Yankee past came out onto the field, and Hank went from his customary cig at first pitch to a carton, when Veras and Marte entered the game. Damon got the first hit, Posada the first home run and Veras and Marte got the first Bronx cheers.

Carlos Delgado Looks Young Again

Minus the gray beard. Minus taking the final pitch of the game last night. But besides all that Carlos Delgado looks like the player the Mets need him to be.

I'm not sure if it's a mid-life youthful burst of energy, or the fact that it's a contract year, but Delgado has a new kind of swing in his step. He's fighting off pitches, taking bad ones, and even looking to hit to the opposite field.
