After poking a grounder up the middle in the bottom of the sixth of a 10-2 loss to the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Friday night, the 30-year-old overran first base following an errant throw.

After weeks, if not months, of talking about teams gearing up and preparing for the stretch run, the last leg of the MLB regular season is officially upon us. While some teams have one eye on 2016 and the other on the chance to play spoiler, the bulk of baseball remains within shouting distance of the playoffs.

But as we're about to learn, all stretch runs aren't created equal when it comes to contenders.

We didn't get the biggest, most significant drama of the MLB week until nearly the end. And we thank everyone involved for that.

The New York Mets' Matt Harvey is at the center of it, along with agent Scott Boras. That makes this perfect for nationwide attention and debate, so we'll get into that shortly.

Due to Labor Day weekend, MLB's Saturday schedule contains more afternoon matchups than usual. DraftKings divides the action into separate slates, allowing gamers to pick their poison.

Every year in September, the MLB coaching carousel begins to heat up. As the hot seat becomes unbearable, we'll take a look at a handful of disappointing managers who won't return in 2016. 

Managers are fired for a variety of reasons, but underachieving teams are usually a common theme. For the Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals, subpar win totals have cast doubt on their respective managerial choices. 

Throughout much of the MLB season, two teams have dominated the competition in their respective leagues. The St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals may be heading into the final month of the regular season as the hottest clubs in baseball, but there's much to be sorted out in the divisional and wild-card races before the postseason gets underway in October. 

In predicting how the postseason picture will shape up with a month to go, three primary factors were taken into consideration:

The New York Mets never wanted Matt Harvey to be Stephen Strasburg. As far as we knew, at least until Friday, Harvey never wanted to be Strasburg, either.

The Detroit Tigers had no answers for Josh Tomlin.

The right-hander threw a complete game and gave up one run on four hits to lead the Cleveland Indians to an 8-1 victory.

The only knock on Tomlin came in the sixth inning when he gave up a leadoff double to Dixon Machado. After retiring the next two hitters, he gave up an RBI single to Miguel Cabrera.
