Hey MLB, November Baseball Doesn't Have To Happen

Major League Baseball says it’s likely—read: a sure thing—that the 2010 World Series will end in November, yet again.

So why is it April 9 and we’re only in the first week of the season?

November baseball makes me wince, every time. You may as well say “cod ice cream.”

Two things, and two things only, can prevent this travesty from becoming an annual occurrence: a) shorten the season, and/or b) start earlier.

Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Bernie Williams to Be On Hand During Ring Ceremony

The Yankees will have Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford present the team with World Series rings during a ceremony that will take place during their home opener against the Angels on April 13. The festivities will start at 12:15 p.m. and Bernie Williams will throw out the first pitch at game time.

Here is the press release :

If Bill Bevens Pitched for the New York Yankees Today

Rammy Manuel has rooted for the Los Angeles Dodgers since he came to the United States.

He is too young to have seen Bill Bevens' one-hitter in the 1947 World Series, but his father used to talk about that game whenever Rammy mentioned the New York Yankees, the one team that the elder Manuel really didn't like.

My father was at Ebbets Field on Oct. 4, 1947 to see the fourth game of the World Series between his beloved Dodgers and the hated, haughty New York Yankees.

Why Chicago Is the Greatest City for Sports in the World

I am a Chicago-area native and have been a fan of all things Chicago for years.  I was born in 1983, the year before the Bears won the Super Bowl.  While I do not remember the game as I was too young, I am just happy I was alive for the win.

In Chicago there are legacies that simply cannot be touched by any other team or city, when you put all those things together you get a city known for sports excellence and I'll tell you why.

For the New York Yankees, The 1961 World Series Was No Cakewalk

The 1961 New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds in a five game World Series that was closer than the final result indicates.

1961 was one of the finest seasons in Yankees' history, but the passage of time often creates a false reality.

Recently, the host of a sports show discussed the 1961 World Series. It was concluded that beating the Reds was almost a cakewalk. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Know Your 2010 Detroit Tigers

Well, it is official. The season is ready to start, and the 25-man roster is set. So just leave it to Your Party Host to give you the lowdown on what you need to know about each player.

Welcome Back Baseball

Welcome back, sweet baseball.

We pray from Seattle to Florida and from Toronto to Texas to you to give us the elixir of October success.

Over the next few months we’ll fall back in love with our stadiums—from the Green Monster at Fenway to the Green Monster Ivy at Wrigley. We’ll hope to see a player fall up the hill in Houston, fall over the fence in Arizona, or crash headlong into a superstar at Yankee.

2010 Twins and MLB Predictions

I recently asked for other bloggers and readers to post their predictions for the 2010 season. Several bloggers have already posted their predictions, so I definitely suggest that you cruise around the Twins blogosphere to see them (I am hoping to make a list of links to the sites at some point today).

MLB History: Ranking the 10 World Series Winners of the Last Decade

A new decade of Major League Baseball will officially begin this Sunday when the defending World Champion New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”

Yanks-Sox, aside from being perhaps the greatest rivalry in sports history, is also a matchup of the only two teams to win multiple championships in the last decade.

So, before we begin the 2010s, let’s look back at the last 10 World Series winners, and see where each of these teams rank among the decade’s elite.

Fantasy Baseball Tips 2010: Part II Evaluating Sleepers and Busts

I know I mentioned it yesterday, but it's really worth repeating: We're less than a week away from Opening Day of the Major League Baseball season. Wow!

But with first pitch just days away, there is still a lot of preparation to be done, and I'm not talking about your favorite team deciding on their fifth starter. Nope, I'm talking about you making the final tweaks to your fantasy team.
