We’re in the thick of baseball’s Hot Stove League right now, and I must say, I love the Tigers’ chances in 2010.

Yes sir, I think they’ll do just fine. All they have to do is have every starter pitch a complete game every outing and oh yeah, hold the other guys to no more than two runs per pop.

That’s all.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Seattle

Not a creature did stir, nor squeak, nor rattle

The seats were placed 'round the diamond with care,

In hopes that a playoff berth soon would be theirs.

The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of championships danced in their heads.

This year, the team really closed up the gap

You'll see him soon—showing up in his typical attire, the red and white suit, with his aged hat.

His socks sit about knee high, tucked under his insulated leggings to keep warm in the coldest days of the year. Waiting all year to deliver his special treat that he has given fans worldwide, near or far, for quite some time.

His name? Not Santa Claus, but Charlie Manuel.

However, it seems that each smile sender seems to have the same persona. Heck, everyone loves them, giving a not so far-fetched idea that Charlie Manuel is Santa Claus.

With school closed for the holidays and family outings hampered by obstructive mounds of snow, winter break is the perfect time to break out some board games.

From the classic chess and backgammon to newfangled Blokus and Scene It?, board games are great was for families to spend time together without having to resort to meaningful conversation.

Ironically, this time of year isn't a break for the people who play baseball, a professional game.

Some teams are trying to better themselves before the 2010 season, while others are trying to deal with the expensive mistakes they made last season.

Remember the good ol' days of baseball?

The Yankees were Pedro Martinez's daddy (or was it the other way around? It still is unclear, but either way, someone has daddy issues...) and Johnny Damon was Boston's homeboy.

My, a lot has changed since then.

I remember when Damon came to the Yankees.

In the mood for a nice tease, but don't feel like dropping by the bank to get some singles and let the wife know about your "very important work project?"

Tonight on SportsCenter: The Yankees have JUST won the 2009 World Series!

This is when it sets in.  Same time every year.  The leaves fall.  The skies turn cold and grey.  The winds of November whip across the Great Lakes.  And baseball fanatics …the kind that subscribe to the Sporting News , play fantasy baseball and always read the line scores….go into withdrawal mode.

In general, baseball players tend to be smarter than their counterparts in other major sports.

Maybe it's that even the best players spend at least a couple years maturing in the minors before they hit the big show.

This is a short story I wrote in sixth grade. I thought I might as well post it on here for you to read:
