The MLB winter meetings commenced Sunday in Nashville, and there is plenty of buzz that could shift the competitive landscape in the industry’s largest annual congregation of executives and media.

The top free agents—starting pitchers Zack Greinke and David Price—were snatched off the market last week for deals exceeding $200 million. But there are still plenty of high-profile chips that could be in play.

1. Navigating Nashville, Music City USA and Baseball’s Epicenter This Week

You probably think the most difficult thing for a general manager at the winter meetings is completing that three-way trade to land an ace or boxing out four other teams to land a bat.

For years, the New York Yankees won the winter the traditional way.

They bought it.

The 2015 MLB winter meetings get underway in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday, which should see a number of high-profile names come off the board and perhaps some blockbuster trades.

Trevor Cahill Reportedly Re-Signs with Cubs

Buster Olney of ESPN reported Cahill's agreement with the Cubs, adding the pitcher "enjoyed his experience" with the team.

The 2015 MLB free-agent pitching class is rich. As in, loaded with talent.

Now, it's rich in another way. As in, drowning in dollars.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported the Colorado Rockies are open to trading outfielder Charlie Blackmon.

Joakim Soria was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Pittsburgh Pirates at the most recent MLB deadline and was evidently only a short-term rental. The Pirates determined Soria wasn't worth keeping or paying ample money for, and now the free-agent reliever has signed with the Kansas City Royals. 

Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is one of the best hitters in baseball, but he could be on the move in the offseason as his team looks to rebuild with an eye on the future.
